How to trust your pony.
Trust is something that takes a long time to build but once built, can be the strongest thing between pony and owner.
But trust can be broken very very easily.
That's why you have to always be very careful and if you ever accidentally bump your pony or accidentally hurt them say sorry immediately!
Most ponies are understanding of you and the fact you did not mean to hurt them and they will forgive you.
But even if they do forgive you always make sure your building trust.
And be very careful around some ponies, as some horses hold grudges and will explode later on.
Most people focus on if their horse is trusting them or not but it is equally important to trust your pony because trust builds confidence and respect for each other.
That's why when learning to ride most people learn on a "Bomb-proof" pony because this pony 'has no dirt in them'. That is, they won't intentionally do anything nasty to you. Gradually you can build confidence through trust in that pony.
And when you got your own pony you have the chance to gain experience.
The same thing goes for horses. They also need a gentle owner to show them 'It's okay' and 'It's alright' in every situation - be it a plastic bag or a dog running out after you on a ride.
Most of all, they need to have that trust and confidence in you to be their leader and that you will keep them safe.
Trust is a very special thing and it is to be treasured for life. It's your safety net too.
Activities and fun things such as tricks and good training methods, time & effort will form a bond between you and your horse. A horse that feels safe, confident and happy will be the safest horse for you, so protect that bond. Give your horse or pony the things that they need physically, but also mentally and emotionally and you will have the best chance of being safe when out riding.
